How do you decide which brand of pastel pencil or coloured pencil to use for each piece? If you're wondering which supplies I use in general, I have a Supply List with links here; https://www.kirstyrebeccafineart.com/supplylists Coloured pencil - I just want to start out by saying that you don't need all of these brands when you're just getting started! You can choose one brand (I reccomend the Derwent Lightfast first, then Faber Castell Polychromos second, and Caran D'ache Luminance third) plus the black and chinese white from Derwent Drawing If I am blending with solvent (which I usually do) I will tend to choose more "wax-based" brands like Caran D'ache Luminance, Derwent Lightfast, or Derwent Drawing in the first few layers because they blend out with very saturated colours and look almost paint-like. Then as the layers develop, I may add in other brands like Faber Castell Polychromos (which are "oil-based" because they sharpen to a finer point which is great for details. Derwent Lightfast feels like a mix of wax and oil-based in my opinion, which is why I recommend them first because you get the best of both worlds In general, I choose the brand depending on the colour I am looking for. Each brand has a slightly different colour selection, so the first thing I look for is the colour I want, and that could be in any of the brands listed above. I sometimes do the entire drawing with one brand, and you can definitely start out with just one set of pencils and choose similar colours from that one brand - you don't need every brand/set of pencils to get started! Pastel Pencil - I use both the Stabilo Carbothello and Faber Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils equally. They feel very similar, but the Carbothello are a little softer (I don't think it makes much of a difference when using them though) I also choose which pastel pencil I am going to use based on the colours. Each set has slightly different colours, so I am picking which colour I want from either brand. Again, you don't need to purchase both sets to start with - you can choose similar colours from one set, or layer a few colours to achieve a similar colour

Which art supplies should I purchase before joining the KR Fine Art Academy? It depends on what medium you are interested in, but if you're mostly interested in pastels, I would recommend grabbing some Pan Pastels and some pastel pencils because I use them in 95% of my pastel tutorials I worked with Pan Pastels to create my own set of 20 colours called "General Realism with Kirsty Rebecca". I'm going to sound a bit like a walking advertisement, but this set includes the 5 base colours (red, yellow, blue, black, white) plus 15 of my "most-used" colours to create any type of realistic subject (wildlife, birds, pet portraits, landscapes, florals, human portraits, still life etc). The reason I included the 5 base colours in this set is that you can mix Pan Pastels like paint, so if there is a colour "missing" from this set, you can easily create the colour you need I have used this set exclusively for about 4 years to create most of the tutorials in the Academy, so you really don't need any other set of Pans if you can get your hands on this one Otherwise, if you don't want to spend that much money to start with, I'd recommend the set of 5 basic colours (red, blue, yellow, black, white) so you can just mix your colours until you're able to build up your set over time by purchasing individual colours when you need them In terms of pastel pencils, the two brands I use the most are the Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils and the Stabilo Carbothello pastel pencils They are both very similar but have different colour ranges so I use them both equally depending on the colour I need If you can only purchase one to start with, that's totally fine, you can also buy individual colours of both brands as you need them and layer/mix your colours as you go - it is harder to mix/layer your pastel pencils and takes a bit of practice to get the colour you need, but it's definitely doable if you are on a budget The paper I recommend for pastels is Clairefontaine Pastelmat. This is the most important supply so if you are on a budget and need to save some money, get a smaller set of Pans or pastel pencils - don't get a cheaper paper because there is nothing else that compares to Pastelmat, unfortunately! I usually buy the dark grey, brown, or sienna colours in larger sheets then cut them down to the sizes I need (it works out cheaper this way and I can choose the colours I like) They do sell pads of Pastelmat which is great to start with, but they usually come with 4 colours, and you may not like some of the colour combinations These are links to the above-mentioned supplies to make it easier for you! How long (on average) are your tutorials? Most of my tutorials are less than 5 hours long - so you don't have to spend days, weeks, or months on a single piece of artwork! My tutorials share the techniques and processes I use to get my artwork to look realistic, without spending a ridiculous amount of hours on tiny details 😊

Struggling to find the supplies I have listed in my tutorials? Trust me, I know your pain!"I have a full list of all the supplies I use, with direct links to each product on Amazon US/UK/AU here https://www.kirstyrebeccafineart.com/supplylists I also have links to Jackson's which is a UK-based art supply store, that actually ships worldwide (some of their products are cheaper than what I can get in Australia, so the shipping is worth it!) for those of you who don't have access to a large Amazon store like the UK/US AND if you purchase ANYTHING from Jackson's after clicking any of my links, you'll receive 10% off your entire first order! *These are affiliate links

Sharing/selling your artwork created from the tutorialsSharing/selling your artwork created from the tutorials Generally, most artists who create online tutorials do not allow you to sell your work, enter any competitions, or claim it as your own in any way. You are allowed to use the tutorials as practice – and that’s all. The main reasons why people have these “rules” are because they have either used their own reference photos for their tutorials (or have paid for the reference so they have the right to use the photo – but their students don’t) and also because people generally don’t like it when other people copy their work and claim it as their own However, I am not as fussed as some other people about some of these “rules” So, to answer some of your questions; Can I share the artwork I created by following one of your tutorials online? (to Facebook/Instagram/your own website etc) I purposely use free royalty-free reference photos, so you won’t have any legal copyright issues if you upload your work online… BUT please don’t claim it as your own work. I have seen quite a lot of posts recently on social media that are almost an exact replica of my artwork (which is great – I love seeing the work you create from the tutorials) but the artist is basically claiming that they came up with the idea, techniques, colour choices, backgrounds etc. The courteous, fair, respectful, and honest thing to do is to credit the teacher when you post your artwork online if you follow a tutorial. This goes for any tutorial you follow from any artist. For example, you can simply add “tutorial by Kirsty Rebecca Fine Art” at the bottom of your post 😊 Can I sell the artwork I created by following one of your tutorials? I don’t have any issues with you selling your work created from the tutorials – just remember to credit the teacher (myself) by adding “tutorial by Kirsty Rebecca Fine Art” to your website listing/social media post etc when you advertise it for sale Can I enter the artwork I created by following one of your tutorials in a competition or show? (online or in-person) No. This is actually because competitions require you to enter “original artwork”. So understandably, if you copy one of my tutorials, you (along with many others) would have created copies of the same piece of artwork, that I originally created – therefore you would be breaking competition “rules” Hopefully, this makes things a little clearer! 😊

How can you contact me?If you have any questions about payments or the Academy in general, you are welcome to email me at krfineart@outlook.com *Please don't use this email for critiques/feedback of your artwork - instead, you can share your artwork/questions with our Facebook community!

Can I Chromecast tutorials from the Academy to my TV (like YouTube videos?)There is actually a mobile app available that does have the option to Chromecast The app is called Kajabi (that is the name of the website host I use for the KR Fine Art Academy) and you can find it here; https://pages.kajabi.com/mobile-app-download All you need to do is download the app and log in using the same email and password you used to join the Academy I don't usually promote the app because it is very "basic" and doesn't include any images for the tutorial thumbnails (which means you can only see the title of the tutorials without seeing an image of what the artwork looks like!) Usually, if people want to watch the tutorials on their phone or tablet, I suggest going to their mobile internet browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari etc) and typing in my website to log in or sign up to the Academy https://www.kirstyrebeccafineart.com/ This is the best way to see all of the tutorials with images displayed for each tutorial… but the problem is that you can’t use Chromecast through your mobile web browser If you use the Kajabi app, you will find that when you click on the tutorial, there is an option to Chromecast the video to your TV or another device (just like videos on YouTube etc) I would only suggest getting the Kajabi app if you want to use Chromecast... but if you plan on watching the tutorials straight from your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop - then go to Chrome/Safari/Internet Explorer/Firefox etc and type in https://www.kirstyrebeccafineart.com/ to log in to the Academy 😊 If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
